A day of culture, scenery and a sample of history.
The first town to visit is Silves (the old Moorish Capital of the Algarve) and the wonderful castle and cathedral. The town of Silves rises above a fertile valley of orange groves and is dominated by its castle which dates mainly to Moorish times. From the castle there are spectacular views of the town and surrounding countryside.Inside the walls the huge, vaulted Cisterna da Moura Encantada (Cistern of the Enchanted Moorish girl) supplied the town with water.
We continue our tour through Caldas, deeper into the Monchique Mountains until we arrive at Fóia, the highest point of the Algarve.
Here you can have free wine tasting and some free time to take pictures and enjoy the view.
The tranquil Monchique hills remain unaltered over many centuries, the air is still fresh, and pure clear water still flows from the mountain springs to the taps.
Take a walk or a gentle stroll through the woods and enjoy the smell of pines and eucalyptus, among the wild flowers and watch the eagles fly overhead.
Here you can have free wine tasting and some free time to take pictures and enjoy the view.
Stop in Parque da Mina, where you can enjoy a recreation of the Medronho destillary, among many other activities that this park has to offer.
